ROGUE RIVER — With leading scorer Jackson Mitchell held scoreless, Rogue River found itself in trouble entering the fourth quarter of a Sunset League boys basketball playoff game Thursday.

But Craig Lee and Darren Taylor sparked a furious comeback as the Chieftains rallied for a 55-49 home victory over Bandon.

With the win, Rogue River (17-8) secures at least the league's No. 2 seed and a home game in the Class 3A state playoffs. The Chieftains play at Sunset champion Cascade Christian Saturday night for the conference's No. 1 playoff spot. Bandon will host Coquille, a 56-51 winner over Glide Thursday, to determine the No. 3 and 4 playoff berths.

Rogue River trailed the Tigers 34-28 entering the final period.

Taylor, a backup junior forward, scored all 12 of his points in the fourth quarter and Lee, a senior guard, tallied 10 of his game-high 17 as Rogue River outscored Bandon 27-15 in the stanza.

"That's kind of been our deal all year," said Rogue River coach Scott Anderson. "We hang around and wear teams down with our defense. We started getting out in transition. The first three quarters were slow. We got the game in our tempo."

Lee also had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals and Taylor pulled down six rebounds.

Rogue River junior Cole Watson added 11 points, and the Chieftains outrebounded Bandon, 29-21, and forced 22 turnovers.
