Genevieve C. Southard



Genevieve C. Southard, of Ashland, Ore., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at home.



Geny was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Sherman, Texas, to George and Frances Kolb. She had three, very protective, older brothers, George, Harry and Chauncey, who predeceased her. She attended Texas State College for Women, now TWU, in Denton, prior to her 1939 marriage to Forrest F. Moore, who passed away in 1988. She married Bill Southard in 1991 and lived in Hideaway, Texas, until they moved to Ashland in 2005.



She enjoyed playing bridge, attending cultural performances and spending time with family members in the area. Surviving in addition to her husband, Bill; her daughter, Gay Todsen, of Franklin, N.C.; son, Gary Moore and his wife, Sandra of Ashland, Ore.; their four daughters, Shell Moore, of Winthrop, Maine; Kathryn Spiering, of Carlsbad, Calif.; Peyton Moore, of Ashland, Ore.; and Alden Moore, of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Janet Kolb, of Sherman, Texas; eight great-grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews.



She was devoted to and very proud of her family and had a generous, loving and kind spirit and a joy of life which will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 at Ashland First United Methodist with Rev. Ted Myers officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Ashland First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main Street, or to Ashland Community Hospital Hospice, 1970 Ashland Street, Ashland, OR. 97520.
