The movie industry's biggest contest is tonight, and you can tune in to the spectacle from home or head to Ashland and see it as part of a fundraiser for a local film festival.

The Academy Awards are broadcast beginning at 5:30 p.m. on KDRV Channel 12 locally.

The Ashland Independent Film Festival's annual fundraiser dinner and auction begins at 5 p.m. (doors open at 4 p.m.) at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Tickets go for $60 per person, a tariff that includes a no-host bar, dinner, dessert, coffee and the opportunity to watch the 81st annual show on two 30-foot screens with concert sound.

The festival, which offers an annual series of films in April, recently announced it had cut its budget in an attempt to meet expenses.

Whether you watch from home or from the Armory, there's plenty of opportunity for star indulgence beyond the actual awards show. KDRV coverage begins at 3 p.m. with "star arrival," then follows with the pre-show at 5 p.m., the awards show at 5:30 p.m. and post-show shows from about 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
