A Medford man was arrested on numerous rape and sexual-abuse charges linked to what Medford police described as years of sexual abuse of a family member.

Dana William Sword, 22, of the 1100 block of Spring Street, Medford, was arrested Monday night on two counts each of first-degree rape and incest, three counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count each of strangulation and harassment. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $5 million bail.

Sword made his first appearance in Jackson County Circuit Court Tuesday afternoon on two counts each of sexual abuse, first- and second-degree rape, as well as a strangulation charge. Bail was set at $1 million.

The victim, who is now an adult, recently reported the abuse, which allegedly stretched back into childhood, Medford police Detective Sgt. Mike Budreau said.
