Several local companies have made Oregon Business magazine's annual 100 Best Companies to Work For in Oregon list.

Medford's US Cellular regional operation ranked fifth in the large category, after topping the list for the past two years. Avista Utilities' regional office was No. 8 in the large category, moving up from No. 31. The employment firm Hire Calling entered the listings this year at No. 17, while the Embarq call center, at No. 19, was also a newcomer.

Among the medium-sized businesses, Ashland's Adroit Construction Co. was No. 11 and Southern Oregon Federal Community Credit Union, at No. 32, were newcomers to the list.

The 100 Best list, announced Thursday, recognizes large, medium and small companies — a third division was added this year — for excellence in benefits and compensation, work environment, decision-making and trust, performance management, and career development and learning.

The top large company on this year's 100 Best list is Hitachi Consulting of Portland. Other top large companies were Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Qualcomm, Grant Thornton LLP and US Cellular.

The top medium companies in 2009 were: Slayden Construction Group of Stayton, Sparling, Reitmeier Mechanical, Jordan Schrader Ramis PC and Hospice & Palliative Care of Washington County.

The leading small company in 2009 was Rose City Mortgage Specialists of Portland, followed by United Human Capital Solutions, QUANGO, Columbia Printing & Graphics and Power Equipment Systems.
