Steven Michael Annis



Steven Michael Annis, 58, of Merlin, Ore., passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at his home. Services with Military Honors will be held on Friday, Mar. 6, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.



Steve was born on Aug. 16, 1950, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Miland and Nanette Annis. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Steve moved to Southern Oregon from Woodland Hills, Calif., in the early 1970s. Steve was distributor for Bien Padre and La Casita Mexican food products for 18 years. He had been working for the past 14 years as a butcher for Ray's Food place in Jacksonville and Phoenix.



Steve was an avid animal lover and enjoyed organizing fundraisers for Southern Oregon Humane Society. He also loved watching college and pro sports. Steve had a very generous heart and enjoyed helping family and friends. In earlier years, he played softball and coached his son in all kinds of sports. He was a devoted father to his son, Shaun.



Survivors include his son, Shaun Annis; sisters, Cindy Gerber, and Sheri Myers, of Central Point, Ore., and Michele Wentela, of Anderson, Calif.; brother, Michael Decker, of Ashland, Ore.; brother-in-laws, Lauren Gerber, Jerry Myers, and Dean Wentela; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Miland Annis and Nanette Decker; and stepparents, Randall Decker and Beverly Annis.
