The ninth annual Daffodil Daze Festival takes place today and Sunday throughout Shady Cove. The Daffy Hat Parade will promenade through town from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kids can decorate visors with spring themes at 10 a.m. at the Tree of Life Christian Preschool and join a children's parade at 11 a.m. Storytelling will be at the Shady Cove library after the children's parade, and a puppet show will be presented at 1 p.m. at Books 'N More. Shuttles will leave Edgewater Inn and Two Pines Smokehouse from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tours of Daffodil Hill. Cost is $2. Self-guided drives on Daffodil Hill also are available. Kids can learn how to make paper at the first "Hands-On-History" workshop at 10:30 a.m. at the SOHS Children's Museum, Fifth and C streets, Jacksonville. Each child will make a sheet of paper from natural and recycled materials to take home. Seeds will be mixed with the paper materials so children can plant the paper in soil at home and watch flowers grow. Cost is $4 for SOHS members, $5 for nonmembers. Call 899-8123. Meet at 10 a.m. at Northwest Nature Shop, 154 Oak St., Ashland, and join the Klamath Bird Observatory for a family bird walk in Lithia Park. Learn how to use binoculars and field guides to spot local feathered friends. Bring binoculars if you have them. There is no charge for this class, but space is limited. Roxy Ann Gem & Mineral Society's 54th Annual Show will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4, and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway. Admission is $3 adults; a weekend pass is $1 additional; students ages 12 to 18 get in for 50 cents. Free admission for children with an adult. There will be world-class mineral exhibits and more than 50 other outstanding exhibits featuring the lapidary arts, jewelry, fluorescent minerals and fossils. Dealers will sell gems, jewelry, fossils, minerals, tools, supplies, books and gifts, and there will be demonstrations including the latest techniques of cabochon making, flint-knapping, faceting, jewelry-making, carving, sphere-making, wire-wrapping and rock-painting. Family activities include a silent auction, wheel of fortune, grab bags, raffle, door prizes, soapstone-carving and gold-panning. Food will be available.
