We are hopeful that Medford city officials will be putting the traffic light back at 12th Street and Riverside Avenue.

This is a very busy crossing and that light is needed, as it is the only way to cross to and from Central Avenue. Without it, it's impossible, particularly during lunch or after work. I have e-mailed city officials, but can you shed any light on this?

— Many concerned travelers

Concerned travelers, take comfort. The traffic light will be reinstalled at 12th and Riverside by May 1, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The transportation department paid the city of Medford to remove the signal so that overweight and over-height semis could be detoured from Interstate 5 during construction of the south interchange, said Cory Crebbin, Medford public works director.

Interstate 5 is down to one lane in each direction during construction.

The lane is too narrow for many semis with wide loads, said Gary Leaming, ODOT spokesman.

The signal at 12th and Riverside was about 14 feet tall, not quite high enough to allow the semis through, Leaming said.

"We are anticipating being back to double lanes on I-5 by April 24," Leaming said.

The return of the signal should follow within a week.
