CENTRAL POINT — Police are searching for a 49-year-old man who was stabbed Saturday in his Vilas Road house after an argument with a woman.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies detained Tosha Nicole Dietrich, 22, after she burst into the Four Corners Market on Table Rock Road claiming she had stabbed a man in a nearby home.

Dietrich had blood on her hands and had the folding pocket knife reportedly used in the stabbing in her pocket, Jackson County sheriff's deputy Rick Kennedy said.

Meanwhile, the alleged victim, Ira Dean Carney fled his west home on Vilas Road and disappeared before police arrived.

Carney, who is no stranger to law enforcement and has multiple convictions for car theft, identity theft and drug possession, likely believed he had a warrant out for his arrest, Kennedy said.

"He doesn't have a warrant, so we would like to speak to him about what happened (Saturday) night," Kennedy said.

Deputies searched the area of Table Rock and Vilas roads but were unable to find Carney. They checked local hospitals, but found no one admitted with a stab wound.

"Witnesses at the scene have told us he was stabbed in the hand or somewhere in the body," Kennedy said. "He was intoxicated at the time of the incident."

Deputies transported Dietrich to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for questioning. She was not charged with the stabbing, but was held on a probation violation. Jackson County Circuit Court records show she has a recent conviction of possession of methamphetamine.

"We just want to know what happened out there," Kennedy said. "We definitely want to speak to both parties."

This was not the first time Carney was stabbed by a woman during an argument.

In 2002, he was stabbed in self defense by a woman in a west Medford home. Carney reportedly argued with the woman over the phone before driving to her house to confront her.

A scuffle ensued before Carney was stabbed in the side and slashed on the arms.

Anyone with information concerning Carney's whereabouts is asked to call Jackson County sheriff's dispatch at 776-7206.
