A Trail woman who pulled in front of a Jackson County Sheriff's Department deputy and sent him and his patrol car careening into a ditch March 19 has been cited.

Oregon State Police gave Phyllis M. Nelson, 67, a ticket for failure to obey a traffic control device.

The trooper investigating the crash said that Nelson, who was driving a gold 2002 GMC pickup, pulled from East Dutton Road into the path of Deputy James Biddle, who was heading northeast on Highway 62. Biddle was responding to a call in Shady Cove with his patrol car's light bar activated.

Although Nelson had stopped before she pulled out, the road wasn't clear when she proceeded, thus garnering the violation, trooper Jeff Walker explained.
