Almer Ray English



Mr. Almer Ray English, 74, of Phoenix, Ore., passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Avamere Three Fountains Nursing Home in Medford.

Almer was born on June 1, 1934 in Petersburg, Texas, to Lester and Naomi English. As a young boy, the family moved to Los Angeles where he grew up in Baldwin Park, Calif.

He entered the U.S. Air Force when he was 17 years old and made this his career. He married Mollie Kelley in 1954. The family traveled to many countries in Europe, including Germany and England. He was also a Vietnam Veteran and retired from the military on Jan. 31, 1972.

Almer's hobbies included woodworking and fishing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mollie, of Phoenix, Ore.; daughter, Ricki and her husband, Bill; and grandson, Aaron Hutchinson, of Phoenix, Ore.; son, Lester and his wife, Patti; and grandchildren, Chelsea and Mackenzie English, of Chino Hills, Calif.; two sisters, Flora Fogliatti and Lelah Mullican; and one brother, Bobby English, all of California. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terry Lyn English; and his brother, George English.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to Rogue Valley Hospice.
