Kids and bugs will collide in a fun and educating manner Saturday in Medford's Bear Creek Park, which will host the fifth annual Kids and Bugs event.

The Bear Creek Watershed Council, the Rogue Fly Fishers Association and several other entities put on the event to help connect local kids and the creek that runs smack dab through the middle of town.

More than 70 kids have registered through the Oregon State University Extension Service, and the event will run from 9 a.m. through 1:30 p.m., says Frances Oyung, the watershed council's coordinator.

Activities include fly-tying and fly-fishing, macro-invertebrate collection and identification, salmon dissection and a live fish exhibit.
