Three Southern Oregon Select Giants teams fared well in a prestigious tournament in Redding, Calif., last weekend.

The 10-year-old team won its division, beating the Redding Vipers, 16-5, in the championship game.

The 13-year-old team was designated co-champion after splitting a title series against the Martinez Hurricanes of the Bay Area, winning 10-5 and losing 5-2.

The 12-year-old Medford team downed the Comets for third place, 14-3.

Bowling

William Donnelly of Medford won singles, doubles and all-events titles recently at the Oregon State Youth Championships at Hanscom Lanes in Klamath Falls. The tournament ran weekends from March 22 to April 5.

Donnelly, 13, and who is coached by Jerome Lee, had a high series of 549 in Division 7. He entered with a 118 average but bowled to a 176 at state.

He earned scholarship money for winning all-events and for having the high series in his division.

John Rohde rolled a 299 game on April 13, in the Rogue League at Lava Lanes.

Fencing

Ashland foil fencers Dylan Shelton and Sulaiman Shelton took the top two spots at the Redwood Coast Assault to Arms of the Association for Historical Fencing at Humboldt State University over the weekend.

Sulaiman, son of Dylan, claimed the gold medal. Dylan won silver.

Golf

Dylan Vandehey made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole at Bear Creek Golf Course on April 7. The shot was witnessed by Ryan Pavlich.

Mike Edmondson sank a hole-in-one on April 16 at Bear Creek Golf Course on hole No. 5. Larry Hackworth witnessed the ace.

Tom Purtzer aced the 17th hole a Centennial Golf Club on April 10. He made the shot with an 8-iron. John Purtzer saw the shot.

Rod Reid drained a hole-in-one on the 13th hole from 140 yards out with an 8-iron at Eagle Point Golf Course on April 20.
