ASHLAND — Ashland bats were too hot for Crater at North Mountain Park Tuesday as the Grizzlies rolled over the Comets, 14-1, in Southern Sky Conference baseball.

Ashland hit three home runs in the first two innings while Crater had four errors and only three hits in the contest.

Crater got one run in the first and then Ashland pitcher Ian Kendall settled in, allowing one hit the rest of the way. He struck out five.

"I didn't feel that strong on the mound today but our defense played well," Kendall said. "I was able to get them to hit some ground balls and get some key outs."

Conference leader Ashland improved to 10-3, 6-1 in the SSC. Crater is 9-7 and 4-2.

Kendall walked the leadoff batter, Bryce Crawford, who scored after two slow-rolling infield singles gave Crater a 1-0 lead.

"I thought the only pitch he (Kendall) was struggling with was his fastball," said Grizzlies coach Don Senestraro. "We made an adjustment to keep it over the inside of the zone and then his performance was outstanding."

Ashland's bats were ignited in the first by Charlie Sebrell's leadoff single. After stealing second and a walk, a throwing error tied the game as Sebrell scored.

"I felt good," said Sebrell, who was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. "I was just trying to go with the pitches being thrown and what the pitcher was giving me."

Kendall did plenty of damage at the plate as well, belting two home runs and a double. He was 3-for-4 with five RBIs.

His three-run shot in the first put Ashland up 4-1.

The Grizzlies put up five more runs in the second, aided by a two-run homer from Nick Hall and a solo shot by Kendall.

"I was just trying to hit the ball hard and help out the team," said Kendall. "I've worked hard with the coaches on hitting the top of the ball lately because I had been getting under it."

Crater had beaten the Grizzlies earlier in the month, 4-1.

"Ever since the last Crater game, we have refocused," said Senestraro. "We've been working really hard at practice, even dedicating entire practices to hitting."

Ashland added three runs in the third for a 12-1 lead on doubles by Lewis Sebrell and Kendall.

Hayden Miller was 2-for-3 for the Grizzlies.

Charlie Sebrell relieved Kendall and pitched a hitless fifth.

"Ian pitched a really good game," said Charlie Sebrell. "I just asked the coach if I could get some work to keep my arm fresh and work on some pitches."
