Taylor Schmidt tossed a four-hit shutout and Tejay Schmidt had a perfect day at the plate as the Black Tornado blasted South Medford 8-0 in Southwest Conference action at North Medford High.

Despite three errors by North, Taylor Schmidt received good defensive support to win her ninth game in 12 decisions. The senior pitcher struck out five and walked two.

Junior Tejay Schmidt went 3-for-3 to pace the Black Tornado 11-hit attack and was involved in all North's scoring opportunities. Tejay Schmidt scored two runs and drove in three.

Tejay Schmidt opened the second with a single and scored what proved to be the winning run on a two-out single by Amanda Freitas.

In the second inning, Tejay Schmidt's RBI triple capped a two-run rally by North (9-3, 2-2 SWC).

Then Tejay's Schmidt two-run double in the fifth highlighted a five-run outburst that helped put the game out of reach.

Freitas added two hits and three RBIs, while teammates Jenna Stevens and McKenna Storey provided two hits each.

South Medford fell to 2-2 in the SWC and 6-9 overall.

Carlee Storey hit a two-run double with the bases loaded in the eighth, and Chandler Tally followed with a two-run single.

Tally then stole second and third base and scored the winning run for Phoenix (14-4, 5-0 Skyline) on a passed ball.
