Rogue Community College will furlough workers and close for one day on May 1 to save about $70,000, which will be used to supplement next year's budget.

The furlough won't cut a class day for students because May 1 was scheduled as an inservice day for staff training.

Managers and unions representing faculty and other employees all agreed to forfeit a day's pay, RCC officials said in a news release announcing the furlough.

RCC has proposed a $29.2 million budget for 2009-2010, virtually the same as the current year's budget. It expects to see a decrease in state funding for community colleges, but the state's proposal hasn't been prepared yet.
