DeEtta "Jo" Pierson

A celebration of life for DeEtta "Jo" Pierson will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 at — p.m. at Murray Hills Christian Church, Beaverton, Ore.

A resident of Aloha, Ore., she died April 19, 2009 in Forest Grove, Ore., with her family and friends at her side.

Jo was born in Robinson, Ill., on June 13, 1944, the daughter of Laird and Martha Holmes. She graduated from Robinson High School in 1962 and Mississippi University for Women in 1966. As a teenager she worked for a candy maker based in Robinson, developing a lifelong love of chocolate.

A homemaker much of her life, she is survived by her husband, W.C. "Chip" Pierson; a son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Diane Pierson, of Leesburg, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Steve Kenyon, of Lebanon, Ore.; and six grandchildren, Cassidy, Evan and Stella Pierson and Bonnie, Sarah and Maggie Kenyon.

Jo was a lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was active in congregations in Robinson, Ill., Medford and Albany, Ore., and most recently in Murray Hills Christian Church in Beaverton.

She was a loyal Oregon Duck fan. Proudly wearing green and yellow on football game days, she loved both the game and marching band music. She also pursued a hobby, collecting Boyd's Bears. When visiting her family in Virginia, she enjoyed going to the Boyd plant in Gettysburg, Pa., to add to her collection.

The family asks that remembrances go to the Alzheimer's Association and also invites friends to watch Oregon Duck football and look up Boyd's Bear on the internet in Jo's memory.
