Medford drivers lose one option for getting on Interstate 5 today but they should gain a bit of wiggle room once they're there.

The state Department of Transportation announced today that it will close the northbound loop on-ramp to the freeway used by eastbound travelers on Barnett Road.

It also announced that six weeks of lane-clogging roadwork on the freeway through Medford will end tonight.

"We're closing the eastbound loop ramp for safety," said ODOT Project manager Joe Thomas. ODOT says the acceleration lane conflicts with slow traffic on the freeway.

The northbound on-ramp for westbound traffic will remain open.

The new northbound on-ramp on the new South Medford interchange is scheduled to open in June, ODOT said in a press release.
