Bermuda-born reggae performer Collie Buddz is headed for Southern Oregon as part of his West Coast Hustle Tour 2009.

Backed by The New Kingston Band, and with support from inspirational artist Pep Love of the underground hip-hop crew Hieroglyphics and The Pyrx Band, Buddz will perform at 9 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St., Ashland. Doors open at 8 p.m.

The concert will be a blend of reggae, dance hall and hip-hop. Pep Love of the Hieroglyphics was born and raised in Jackson, Miss. He relocated with his family to Oakland, Calif., as a teenager. There he partnered with fellow DJ and producer Jay-Biz to create the group The Prose. In 1965 The Prose was incorporated into the underground hip-hop collective, the Hieroglyphics. Pep Love is a practitioner of capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, and also is a vegan. He made his recording debut on Casual's 1993 release, "Fear Itself." The Prose released their debut album, "The Shamen," in 1993. The album featured appearances from Hiero members Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Casual.

Pep Love released his solo debut album, "Ascension," in 2001 and "Ascension Side C" in 2003 through the Hieroglpyphics' independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings. He also contributed significantly to both of the Hieroglyphics' studio albums, "3rd Eye Vision" in 1998 and "Full Circle" in 2003.

The six-member Pyrx Band from Northern California plays an eclectic mix of genre-bending hip-hop, rock and reggae. Pyrx has toured the country since the release of its first album release, "Infinite Medicine," in 2004. Pyrx released "Like The Rhythm" in 2006. The band has performed with such groups as Maroon5, Redman, Julian & Stephen Marley, Andre Nickatina, Anthony B, Barrington Levy, Eek A Mouse, Pepper, Slightly Stoopid, Kottonmouth Kings and many others. In early 2008 Pyrx won the "Underground Artist of the Year for 2008" from High Times magazine.
