Jackson County Sheriff's Department has promoted deputy Rick Kennedy to sergeant.

Kennedy joined the department in 1997 as a corrections deputy, then transferred to the patrol division in 2003, the department said. He has served as a field training officer, SWAT team member, entry team leader and officer in charge. He was the 2008 SWAT team member of the year.

Kennedy, married with three children, is part of a Jackson County law enforcement family. His father R.C. Kennedy spent the bulk of his career with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and, while now retired, still works part-time for the patrol division. Kennedy's brother is an officer at the Shady Cove Police Department.

Rick Kennedy started his law enforcement career as an Explorer with the Medford police, then worked as a reserve officer for Jacksonville police.
