ASHLAND — Freshman pitcher Kelsie Bartley struck out seven to lead North Medford to its fifth consecutive win, 6-1 over Ashland, in nonconference softball at North Mountain Park on Wednesday.

Tejay Schmidt had three hits and Taylor Schmidt scored twice for the Black Tornado (13-3).

Bartley, in her first varsity start, allowed a run in the first inning on doubles by Sarah Silbowitz and Amanda Good, then retired 10 in a row and 15 of the next 16 batters.

North Medford scored three times on five hits in the third inning against Ashland starter Bella Pribyl, highlighted by Shani Masters' double and an RBI triple from McKenna Storey. Taylor Schmidt and Tejay Schmidt also had RBI singles.

In the sixth, consecutive singles by Tejay Schmidt, Hannah Leming and Kelsey Leming produced two more runs.

Pribyl and reliever Hayley Ross each allowed three runs and six hits for Ashland (8-11), which has lost eight straight and nine of its last 10.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 13, COQUILLE 0, 5 inn. — At Coquille, junior Nikki Jones went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored in the five-inning game for Cascade Christian (10-5, 6-1 Sunset).

Challengers pitcher Leah Weakley (9-4) allowed two hits and struck out six.

Brandi Johnson added three hits and scored twice for the Challengers.

BUTTE FALLS 12, PROSPECT 6 — At Prospect, Mariah Moore and Aarika Stephens combined to allow only three hits for Butte Falls and the Loggers took advantage of 12 Prospect errors to earn the District 4 victory.

Cheyanna Kirkpatrick was 2-for-4 and Butte Falls (11-5, 7-5 Dist. 4) also got doubles from Stephens and Allie Givens.

Jessica Cryts had an RBI single for Prospect (4-7 Dist. 4), while Keirstyn Anderson and Shelby Zelner each added a hit.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 11, COQUILLE 0, 6 inn. — At Bandon, Cascade Christian junior pitcher Colton Cochran surrendered two hits and struck out 11 in the six-inning contest that was moved to Bandon because of wet field conditions at Coquille.

Jake Miller had a productive day at the plate for the Challengers (10-6, 6-1 Sunset) with two hits and five RBIs. Ryan Pech provided two hits, three RBIs and three runs. Miller and Pech each had two-run doubles in the Challengers' four-run fifth inning.

Ryder West added two hits and scored three times.
