The memorial service for Paula Assali will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church of Medford, 85 S. Holly Street.
Paula died from the effects of endometrial cancer on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at her home in Medford. She was 60. She was a caring wife, loving mother, jubilant grandmother and active community volunteer.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Emily; son, Joshua; daughter-in-law, Geneva; granddaughter, Dorothy; grandson, Leroy; brother, Edward; sister, Barbara; and sister-in-law, Leni.
Paula was born to Peter and Pauline Batt in Stockton, Calif., on June 26, 1948. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Stockton in 1966 and from San Francisco State University in 1971.
She spent the last ten years engaged in extensive volunteer community work with the Food & Friends meals on wheels program; English as a Second Language instruction; SMART program; and various food banks, especially that of First Presbyterian Church of Medford.
She was especially active with the Friends of the Medford Public Library bookstore, where she was part-manager and where she enjoyed serving the community and library and working with wonderful volunteers.
Paula was also involved with Friendship Force of Southern Oregon and hosted travelers from around the world. She was a creative quilter, lifelong reader, and avid traveler.
