Take Fido for a walk for a cause Saturday during the 18th annual Dogs for the Deaf fundraising Dog Walk.
It's from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hawthorne Park in Medford, and includes all sorts of activities. The fee to enter is $20 per person or $50 per family, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, contests and ice cream.
Contests are planned for the best canine and owner pioneer costume, best "paw 5" or high five and best dog trick. A silent auction and raffle also are planned, and state Rep. Dennis Richardson (R-Central Point) will serve as grand marshal. Activities for kids will include a hoop-shoot contest, face painting and games.
Dogs for the Deaf rescues dogs from shelters and trains them to help people with hearing loss or special physical or emotional needs.
