Elbert Philip Sherrouse



Elbert Philip Sherrouse went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, surrounded by his family at the home he and his wife built in Medford.

Elbert was born on July 26, 1921, near Splendora, Texas, to Ocie and Rosa Sherrouse. On May 16, 1942, he married Ruth May Wilson and began a journey of true partnership in love. During World War II, Elbert served with the Army's 34th General Hospital in England. Upon discharge, he and Ruth moved to Ontario, CA, where they raised two daughters while Elbert worked as an electrician and earned his electrical contractor's license. In 1954, Elbert and Ruth formed

E & R Electric, building a reputation for quality work. They were active in their church and enjoyed working with young people. In 1976, they moved their home and business to Medford, OR, becoming active in First Baptist Church. After 30 years in business, Elbert retired and pursued his love of family, travel, fishing, and care of his garden and orchard.

Elbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth, and his granddaughter, Sarah Turner Weems. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands: Randa and William Southwick of Grants Pass, Phyllis and Bill Turner of The Dalles;

his grandchildren: Sterling Southwick of Vancouver, WA,

Heather Southwick of Medford, Matthew and Wendy Turner of Kent, WA; his great-grandchildren: Joanna and Joshua Turner; and his brothers and sisters in Texas: Luther

Sherrouse, Ruthie Blue, and Beatrice Tidwell.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held Thursday, June 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Lane in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 649 Crater Lake Avenue, Medford, OR 97504.
