MEDFORD — Representatives for Fred Meyer Stores Inc. are requesting a zoning change to allow a new sign to go up to attract Interstate 5 drivers.

Until the recently revamped south Medford interchange was completed, drivers exited the freeway near Fred Meyer's north perimeter. Now, it's not so apparent to travelers how to find the store.

Fred Meyer seeks a zoning change from regional commercial to regional commercial freeway overlay, which already is present on the remaining corners of the Stewart Avenue and Barnett Road area, said Kelly Akin of the Medford Planning Department.

The Planning Commission will take up the matter when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jackson County Auditorium, 10 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford.
