GRANTS PASS — The Southern Oregon Amateur Radio Club will join other radio clubs and the American Radio Relay League this weekend for Amatuer Radio Field Day at Schroeder Park in Grants Pass.

The event begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and runs all night and through 11 a.m. Sunday. The radio clubs will demonstrate how ham radio operators provide critical communications during unexpected emergencies such as wildfires, storms and tornadoes. During Hurricane Katrina, for example, ham radio was often the means for communication, aiding the many agencies involved, organizers say.

The demonstration is free and open to the public. Schroeder Park is on Willow Lane off Redwood Avenue. For more information, call Ed Diehl at 541-244-0947.
