Safeway stores' July Freedom from Hunger campaign will benefit needy Oregonians, including clients of ACCESS Food Share Pantry Network.

Safeway stores in Medford and Ashland are among the more than 100 regional locations taking part in the campaign Wednesday through the end of July.

The 20 food pantries of Jackson County ACCESS have seen an increase in the number of households requesting food assistance this year, ACCESS officials say.

Safeway customers may participate by purchasing a pre-packaged $8 bag of nonperishable food at the checkout stand; purchasing food and placing it in the Freedom from Hunger barrels; bringing food donations to the store and placing it in the Freedom from Hunger barrels; or donating funds to the Freedom from Hunger campaign online at www.oregonfoodbank.org.
