A ninth-inning rally by the Southern Oregon RiverDawgs came up short in a WCL Tri State League baseball game at Harry & David Field Saturday.

The Folsom Pioneers defeated Southern Oregon 6-5.

The RiverDawgs fell to 2-2 in league play, while Folsom improved to 6-4

Steve Candelaria went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the RiverDawgs' 11-hit attack.

With two out in the bottom of the ninth, Aaron Hassel walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Shawn Freeman's RBI single cut the Pioneers' lead to 6-5, but Austin Coleman flew out to center field to end the game.

Jared Adamson had two hits and scored twice for Southern Oregon and Mitch Nelson and Freeman each had two hits and one RBI.

The RiverDawgs host Folsom in two seven-inning games beginning at 11 a.m. today at Harry & David.

SOUTH MEDFORD 10-15, GRANTS PASS 4-5 — Brandon Dollarhide collected six hits and scored five runs in the Area 4 doubleheader sweep for South Medford.

In the opener, Dollarhide had three hits, scored three runs and stole four bases. Bryson Lake added two hits, two RBIs and two runs. Also getting two hits for the Colts were Josh Havird and Andrew Phillips, who belted a solo home run in the sixth.

In Game 2, the Colts (19-3, 13-3 Area 4) used two big innings to score all their runs in the six-inning contest.

Again Dollarhide led the attack with three hits, three RBIs and two runs. Havird went 4-for-4 and scored three runs, while Casey Kline and Ryan Wellock each contributed two hits and two RBIs and Lake had two hits.

SOUTHERN OREGON FUEGO 4, REAL SAN JOSE 1 — At San Jose, Calif., Taka Doi and Brian Avila each scored one goal and had one assist as Southern Oregon snapped a six-game losing streak in the National Premier Soccer League match at Yerba Bueno High School.

The Fuego (2-8) led 3-1 at halftime.

San Jose tallied first at the 15th minute, but three minutes later Uriel Castillo tied the game off an assist from Rael Hirning.

Doi scored at the 23rd minute on an Avila assist.

Rodrigo Ramos' goal in the 31st minute gave Southern Oregon a 3-1 lead.

Football

S.O. RENEGADES 20, EAST COUNTY KNIGHTS 6 — At Gladstone, Alvin Thornton rushed for 99 yards to help the Southern Oregon Renegades to a North American Football League season-opening victory at Gladstone High School.

Southern Oregon's Siggo Jefferson returned a fumble 64 yards for the only touchdown of the first half.

The Renegades received rushing touchdowns from Ammir Souter and Kris Butler in the second half.

Southern Oregon rushed 208 yards in the game.

Chris Mix had two fumble recoveries and Kelly Kline intercepted two passes for the Renegades.
