An Ashland man threatened his family with a gun and fired two rounds into the air early Monday morning at their home in the 700 block of Helman Street, police said.

Kenneth Osburn, 48, remained in custody at Jackson County Jail on charges of unlawful possession and use of a weapon, menacing, disorderly conduct and reckless endangering. Bail was set at $20,000.

Osburn was involved in a dispute with family members when he grabbed his high-powered rifle and shot it into the air at about 3:15 a.m., said Sgt. Scott Schuster with the Ashland Police Department.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred on the same block as Helman Elementary School.

Police responded to the home shortly after the gun was fired, but Osburn had already left the area.

With the help of Talent and Phoenix police, Ashland officers soon found Osburn, who had the rifle, walking on the bike path near Bear Creek and Interstate 5, according to Schuster.

Police arrested Osburn and lodged him in the county jail.
