Chester L. Caster

Chester L. Caster, 65, of Grants Pass, Ore., passed away peacefully at his brothers' home in Medford, on July 15, 2009. He was born on June 17, 1944 at Camp White. Chet grew up in the Rogue Valley and graduated from Phoenix High School in 1962. After attending OSU he went to Sitka, Alaska where he was trained in radio communications. He then traveled for a period of time and ended up in Sydney, Australia. He obtained a Diploma of Divinity and Missions at the Sydney Missionary and Bible College. Chet spent seven years in Papua New Guinea working for the Christian Radio Missionary Fellowship. His two daughters were born there. He worked for Josephine County as a communications specialist, where he retired a few months shy of 20 years of service. He also held the position of AFSCME Union President. Chet enjoyed spending time outdoors hiking, camping, spelunking and geo-caching with his family and friends. He also spent many seasons bow hunting with his brothers. Chet was a volunteer for the Josephine Co. Search and Rescue. It was his desire to become more involved after his retirement. He also had a gift for helping with family projects; especially those of his brothers.

Chet was preceded in death by his father, Orville O. Caster. He is survived by his mother, Velma M. Caster, Medford, Ore.; daughters; Tracy Caster, Medford and Janice Caster-Salyers, Reno, Nev.; brothers and their wives; Terry and Debbie Caster, Medford, Kim and Tracy Caster, Central Point, Bart and Sherrie Caster, Orland, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and great nephews.

A Memorial Celebration will be held in Grants Pass on July 25th at 2:00 p.m. in the Ann G. Basker Auditorium on 6th Street.
