ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University coach Brent Ericksen wrapped up his busy track and field and cross country recruiting season this week with the addition of six junior college transfers.

Jumper Seth Lindquist (Lane CC, Eugene), sprinters Kwame Agyemang (De Anza JC, Cupertino, Calif.), Wendell Sells (Hartnell JC, Salinas, Calif.), Kenny Guereque (Hartnell JC), distance runner Ruben Martinez (Rio Hondo JC, Whittier, Calif.) and hurdler Amy Nelson (Lane CC) will all compete for the Raiders in 2009-10.

Ericksen has added 25 athletes to the men's team and 13 to the women's.

Agyemang, Sells and Guereque will give the Raiders much-needed depth in the sprints. Agyeman has career-bests of 10.90 in the 100 meters and 22.12 in the 200. Sells ran 11.14 in the 100 and 22.38 in the 200, while Guereque's best times are 11.26 and 22.63.

"All three have the potential to make a tremendous impact at the conference level and can help both of our relay teams," Ericksen said in a release.

Lindquist should immediately turn some heads in the jumps. His best in the triple jump is 471/2 feet, and that mark would rank third in Southern Oregon history.

"The addition of Seth really strengthens our jumps," Ericksen said. "He was one of the most talented junior college jumpers in the nation and has the unique ability to do all four jumps. He is already a national-level performer in the triple jump and isn't that far off in some of the other events."

Martinez and Nelson will compete on both the track and field and cross country teams.

Martinez placed sixth in the California junior college state championships in cross country and also placed in the 5,000 and 10,000 during the track season.

Nelson battled injuries last year but has lots of potential, said Ericksen.
