Medford-based KOBI-TV has hired Julie Akins to lead its newsroom staff and editorial decision making for its TV news operation serving 11 counties.

Medford-based KOBI-TV has hired Julie Akins to lead its newsroom staff and editorial decision making for its TV news operation serving 11 counties.

Akins has led several news departments as a news director, was a media consultant for the California Media Collaborative and a reporter for KRON 4 News in San Francisco, Calif. She also wrote "Common Miracles; Gifts from a Grateful Universe," which chronicles her experiences as a journalist and insights she gained on the job. Her book is dedicated as a benefit for worldwide hunger programs and is available in bookstores and on line at www.commonmiraclesbook.com.

Akins is a Pacific Northwest native and grew up in Seattle.
