A fire at 14694 Antioch Road in the Sams Valley area destroyed a mobile home, a large shed, a pickup truck and a van, then spread through about 8 acres of scrub and grass land. A house on the property escaped the flames.

A fire at 14694 Antioch Road in the Sams Valley area destroyed a mobile home, a large shed, a pickup truck and a van, then spread through about 8 acres of scrub and grass land. A house on the property escaped the flames.

The fire was reported at about 2:30 p.m. It burned about 8 acres, sending up a ribbon of dark smoke that was visible across the valley.

Crews from Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and the Oregon Department of Forestry quashed the flames. A helicopter scooped water from a nearby pond to help control the wildfire.

Officials said no one was at home when the fire broke out.

Antioch Road remained closed around 4:20 p.m. as crews mopped up at the scene. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department provided traffic control in the Sams Valley neighborhood.
