That lovely SPAM is back in Shady Cove this weekend as the city revives an annual festival that fell by the wayside last year.

The festival celebrating the once-ubiquitous canned meat starts at 10 a.m. at Chaparral Street and Highway 62, followed by a parade of costumed pets. A SPAM cookoff starts at 1:30 p.m.

The Relief will present rock music from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Diamonds and Denim will play country and rock from 4 to 7 p.m. at the festival beer garden. Other activities include a watermelon-eating contest, a kids' carnival and photographs with Jason Leffler's NASCAR car.

The town's wackiest celebration lapsed for a year when, in 2008, organizers declined to continue paying for the festival.
