The Southern Oregon men's cross country team has been picked to the win the Cascade Conference title in a preseason coaches' poll.

The Raiders received six of 10 first-place votes and 94 total votes. Concordia finished second in the poll, followed by Eastern Oregon and the College of Idaho.

On the women's side, the College of Idaho is picked to win the conference, and a young SOU women's squad is picked to finish seventh.

The SOU men raced to the conference title last year and then finished a program-best fourth at the NAIA national championships. First-year head coach Brent Ericksen was named the conference's coach of the year.

The Southern Oregon Renegades (6-0) amateur football team hasn't given up a touchdown in four games and seems to be getting stronger by the week.

Nate Ellis and Ammir Souder scored two touchdowns apiece as the Renegades overpowered the East County Blackshirts of Portland, 50-0, on Saturday at Spiegelberg Stadium.

Souder ran the ball just four times but ripped off touchdown runs of 24 and 16 yards.

Souder had 45 yards on the ground as did the Renegades' leading rusher Alvin Thornton, who rushed 19 times and barrelled in for a TD in the third quarter.

In the second quarter, Ellis hooked up with wide receiver Titan Mann for a 37-yard touchdown and Gary Colbert from 30 yards, giving Southern Oregon a 30-0 halftime advantage.

Ellis was 7-for-15 for 128 yards and ran five times for 37 yards.

Mann led in receiving with three catches for 66 yards.
