Samuel D. Glass



Samuel D. Glass, 78, of Central Point, Ore., passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. Sam was born March 21, 1931 in Central Point, where he lived his entire life.



He graduated from the old Central Point High School in 1949. He then joined the Marines and served in Japan and Korea. On returning home from the military, he attended Southern Oregon College and Oregon State University. On returning home from college, Sam married his wife of 52 years, Betty Eccleston, Nov. 24, 1956, in Eagle Point, Ore. He then settled down in the Table Rock area and made farming his career. He had started farming at the age of 13 for the Nealon Farms. Other than trips to the Oregon coast, you could find Sam in his fields planting or harvesting. He was a dedicated farmer and according to his friends and associates, "the best in the valley." The morning of his passing he had been on his John Deere, doing what he loved.



He is survived by his wife and two sons, Doug and wife, Tavia, and granddaughter, Sara, of Eagle Point, Ore.; Steve and wife, Patricia, and grandchildren, Kara and Scooby, of Central Point, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents Theo and Sylvia Glass; brothers, Claburn and Hugh; and sisters, Ruth and Theada.



A service will be held at Medford Conger Morris Chapel on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
