FRESNO, Calif. — The Southern Oregon volleyball team went 2-0 during the first day of the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invitational on Friday.

FRESNO, Calif. — The Southern Oregon volleyball team went 2-0 during the first day of the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invitational on Friday.

To kick off the tournament, SOU defeated Cornerstone University 25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 29-27 and then turned around and made quick work of Westminster College 25-19, 25-21, 25-17.

The Raiders are now 4-1 on the season and face Biola and Menlo today.

In the opener, SOU was led by Leah Bergstrom, Heather Porter, Chelsea Hartman and Megan Bartling.

Bergstrom finished with a team-high 11 kills, while Porter and Hartman both had 10 kills. Bartling finished with nine kills and only one error to go along with a match-high six blocks.

Becky Johnstone finished with 14 digs to lead SOU.

Against Westminster, it was Bergstrom who led the way. The junior turned in a match-high 13 kills for the Raiders.

Senior Corynn Jorgensen finished with 10 digs for SOU.

CONCORDIA (Calif.) 1, SOUTHERN OREGON 0 — At Ashland, Hayley Partridge's goal late in the second half was enough as Concordia (Calif.) scored a victory over Southern Oregon at University Field in the season opener for both teams.

Both teams will play again in Ashland on Sunday. Concordia (Calif.) will play second-ranked Concordia (Ore.) at 11 a.m. and SOU and Oregon Tech will play at 1:30 p.m.

Partridge worked her way up the left side and fired from 12 yards up and had the ball just go under SOU goalie Jessica Kuehlwein's hands to score the only goal of the game.

Concordia's Bekah Garvin helped protect the lead by turning away SOU on a corner kick during the 84th minute.

Concordia came away with 22 shots during the match and SOU finished with eight.

Tori Chambliss, Sara Switzer, Lindsey Thomas, Stephanie Carr and Chennin Young all had shots on goal for the Raiders.
