Flora-Belle Mason Fields

Oct. 9, 1914-Aug.23, 2009

The family of Flora-Belle (Flo) Fields, 94, mourns her death and celebrates her long and joyful life. Flo spent her last years living with her loving daughter in Albany, Ore. She will be remembered for her sweet nature and kindness. She was an incredible woman that taught four generations the meaning of family and unconditional love.

Flo was born in Roy, Wash., to Earnest and Mary (Porsch) Mason. She graduated from high school in Yelm, Wash. She married the love of her life, Eugene E. Fields, March 18, 1934. The young couple moved to Alaska, living in Fairbanks and Valdez for five years where their family of three was born. As the children grew the family's moves took them to Seattle; Caldwell, Idaho; then Vale, Murphy and Medford, Ore. Settling in Southern Oregon, she worked at JC Penny for five years and then worked in physician offices until she retired.

Flo was active in clubs throughout her life. She presided over the Women's Club in Valdez and joined the order of Eastern Star, remaining a member for 20 years. She was a Girl Scout leader in Vale, Ore., in the 1940s and was president of the Medical Assistance Club in the 1970s. She was an active member at the First United Methodist Church in Medford for decades.

After retirement Flo became a world traveler. She explored Europe on several different trips. She especially enjoyed a trip to meet distant relatives who became friends during WWII through care packages. When China opened to Americans, she was an early tourist. She traveled to Australia and New Zealand and even visited a granddaughter in Panama. She criss-crossed the U.S. on many road trips and returned to Alaska for a special trip with her daughter, Yvonne, in 1990.

Waiting for her arrival in Heaven are her husband, Eugene; son, Ron; siblings; and many treasured friends.

Flora-Belle's greatest joy and biggest source of pride was her family. She was the center of a close-knit and loving extended family. She leaves behind her daughter, Yvonne Miller, of Albany, Ore.; son, Gary Fields and daughter-in-law, Irene, of Hood River, Ore.; daughter-in-law, Barbra Fields, of Falkville, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Jody Hill, Julia Bright, Jennifer Fields, Troy Miller, Rachel Miller, Adrian Fields and Mara Fields; and seven great-grandchildren.

Please join the family for a memorial service at the Medford First United Methodist Church on Oct. 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Evergreen Hospice, 1046 Sixth Ave. SW, Albany, OR 97321.
