Chris Butler

Chris Butler, 59, passed from our lives on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009. She was in her home in Central Point, Ore., surrounded by her family. Chris was born in Ventura, Calif. on March 16, 1950 to Marge and Ford Theis. She was raised and attended school in Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School in 1968. There she met and fell in love with Larry Butler, her husband of 40 years.

The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Southern California before moving to Keno, Ore., to raise their two children.

Chris enjoyed a successful career as a Jazzercise instructor in Klamath Falls, Ore. She later returned to college to complete her teaching credential, earning a BS in Elementary Education from Southern Oregon University. Chris became a beloved teacher. She taught in Butte Valley, California and Klamath Falls, spending the majority of her career teaching First Grade at Shasta Elementary School. Chris loved learning and teaching; her enthusiasm inspired countless children. She deeply loved the children in her life.

Chris was blessed with a keen intellect, a playful personality and many talents. She was equally at home performing on stage or towing behind a boat, and she always left gardens more beautiful than she found them. She was a wonder to her grandchildren who needed every ounce of their youthful energy to keep pace with their "Grammy." Chris's faith in Jesus Christ brought her and her family tremendous comfort and peace throughout her life.

Her family would like to thank the following medical professionals for their care and compassion for Chris as she bravely battled illness for over two years: Doctors, Harrie, Savage, and Sander in Medford and Doctors, Crocenzi, Vetto, and Hung in Portland.

Chris is survived by her husband, Larry Butler, of Central Point, Ore.; son, Aaron Butler, of Miami Beach, Fla.; daughter, Amy Kranenburg; and son-in-law, Andy Kranenburg of Central Point, Ore.; grandsons, William Kranenburg and Christopher Kranenburg, of Central Point, Ore.; parents, Marge and Ford Theis, of Ventura, Calif.; sisters, Cheryl Lewis and Cathy Tipton, of Ventura, Calif.; and many special in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held in Ventura, Calif. on Oct. 3, 2009 at — p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, where Chris and Larry were married. A courtyard reception will follow.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Friends of the Children of Klamath Basin, 3837 Altamont Dr. Klamath Falls, OR 97603-7217.
