ASHLAND — The Ashland Fire Department plans to change some emergency procedures after having communication problems during a 150-acre fire that burned a vacant house and prompted evacuations earlier this week.

ASHLAND — The Ashland Fire Department plans to change some emergency procedures after having communication problems during a 150-acre fire that burned a vacant house and prompted evacuations earlier this week.

The city, for example, posted incorrect information on its Web site that the fire was contained Monday afternoon.

Ashland Fire Chief John Karns told KDRV-TV of Medford there were also problems with the wildfire hot line, and the department is working on getting a different system that allows for higher call volumes.
