State parks officials are looking for a hiking aficionado in Jackson County or elsewhere in Oregon's Second Congressional District to serve on the Oregon Recreation Trails Advisory Council.

The council advises the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department on the planning and development of non-motorized recreational trails statewide.

The council, which meets quarterly, also reviews grant proposals and develops statewide plans for trails.

It has a representative from all five of Oregon's congressional districts.

The Second Congressional District encompasses all of Jackson County and a portion of Josephine County as well as part of Hood River County and all of eastern Oregon.

Two other coastal residents round out the seven-member council.

For more information and for an application, contact Recreation Trails Coordinator Rocky Houston at 503-986-0750 or e-mail rocky.houston@state.or.us.

The application deadline is Oct. 23.
