Peggy was born on June 22, 1916 on a farm in Lowell, Ind., to Charles and Myrtle Horner, their third child. She graduated from Lowell High School and spent her early years in Lowell, Crown Point and Gary, Ind.
She met her future husband, Don Graves in Gary in 1941; they were married in 1945 at Crown Point after he returned from active duty at Pearl Harbor. They remained married for 54 great years until his death in 1999.
They moved to the Bay Area in 1948 where they lived in Redwood City and owned a furniture store, The Country Store, a Belmont landmark.
They moved to Ashland in 1986 to retire close to their granddaughters, Allison, Colleen and Heather. Don and Peggy were inseparable. Mom had lots of friends because she drew people to her and nourished them.
She's survived by her granddaughters, her children, Roger and Joelle Graves of Medford and many loving nieces and nephews both in California and Indiana and other locations.
A private graveside service will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 for family and invited friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Ashland Hospice and Trinity Episcopal Church's Friends of Music.
