EUGENE — The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team won its third straight match with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of Northwest Christian tonight in Eugene.

EUGENE — The 16th-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team won its third straight match with a 25-12, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of Northwest Christian tonight in Eugene.

Southern Oregon improved to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in Cascade Conference play. The Raiders travel to Corban today. Northwest Christian dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-6 in conference play.

Leanne Stennett and Chelsea Hartman led the SOU attack. Stennett finished with 11 kills, while Hartman had nine kills and no errors.

SOU did its best to put the match out of reach in the first set by hitting .375 and holding NWC to a minus-.133 attack percentage. The Raiders ended up hitting a season-best .360 for the match.

Corynn Jorgensen finished with 12 digs for the Raiders and Becky Johnstone had 10 digs.

OIT 1, SOU 0 — At Ashland, Oregon Tech's Lisel Frazier scored less than five minutes into the match, and it proved to be enough in the Cascade Conference opener.

Oregon Tech improved to 8-1 overall. Southern Oregon dropped to 2-6-1.

Frazier's goal came at 5:50 and after an eventful corner kick.

OIT's Brooke Cole put the ball in play with a corner kick, and after the ball bounced off a couple SOU players, Frazier put the ball into the net from a daunting angle along the end line.

The Raiders had an 18-6 advantage in shots — including 13 in the second period.

In the 75th minute, SOU's Alexis Mahoney nearly tied the match with a shot that bounced off the post. In the 88th minute, Stephanie Carr hit the crossbar.

Denise Powell led SOU with five shots and three shots on goal. Stacy Szeto had two shots on goal.
