MERLIN — Phoenix crowned three wrestling champions but couldn't overcome Henley in the North Valley Invitational on Friday.

The Hornets scored 209 points to distance themselves from the Pirates (173.5). Crater finished third with 147.

Luke Amuchastegui pinned his way through the bracket to claim the title at 160 pounds for Phoenix. The senior capped his run with a first-round pin in the finals.

Jason Adams earned the title at 140 for the Pirates, while teammate Eleazar Deluca was the champion at 145.

The Pirates' Josh Warden finished second at 171, while Chris Renfro (125) and Nick Renfro (112) each placed third.

Crater's Chase Mackey scored a 9-6 victory over Illinois Valley's Gabe Miller to earn the title at 125, while fellow Comet Tyler Montague was the runner-up at 119 after dropping a 6-2 decision to Zorg Loustalet of Henley in the finals.

KLAMATH FALLS 5, SOUTH MEDFORD 3 — Chad Steiner's hat trick powered Klamath Falls past South Medford at The RRRink in a nonconference match.

Panthers freshman Ryan Lund tallied two goals, both were assisted by Brandon Punsuk.

Punsuk also had the other goal for South Medford (1-1).
