Mary Esther VanLaningham, 77, of Medford Ore., lost her battle with Alzheimer's on Dec. 12, 2009.
Mary was born Nov. 9, 1932 in Oregon City, Ore., to Harold and Jessie Ballard. She was the youngest of six children. She married Neil J. Schroeder in Oregon City in 1951. They moved to Medford in 1962 where they raised their two sons. She was active in the community and helped with the Miss Rogue Valley Pageant. Frequent vacations to Lake of the Woods will always be remembered.
Mary moved to Springfield in 1970 and married Robert (Bob) E. VanLaningham in June 1974. She worked for the Eugene Police Department for many years.
She is survived by her brother, George Ballard, of Seattle, Wash., her sister, June Moura, of Modesto, Calif.; two sons, George Schroeder, of Medford, Ore., and Mark Schroeder, of Springfield, Ore.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was greatly loved and will truly be missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Farmington Square for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice or Alzheimer's Research would be appreciated.
The memorial service is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 21, at noon, at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Perl Mortuary Medford, Ore.
