Gas prices in the Medford area are falling slightly as more people head out on the road for the holidays.

A gallon of gas was selling for an average of $2.76 per gallon today in the region, down from $2.78 a week ago and $2.81 a month ago, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The Medford-Ashland area prices remain slightly higher than the state average, $2.70, and considerably higher than they were a year ago this week, $1.79 per gallon, said AAA.

A survey conducted by AAA estimates that 14.9 million people will travel 50 or more miles away from home during the Christmas and New Year's vacation period in the region that includes Oregon, up from 13.4 million people a year ago.
