Harry & David has recalled shelled hazelnut kernels sold in bulk bins at its Harry & David Country Village store because of potential salmonella contamination.

The nuts, supplied to the Medford retailer by Evonuk Oregon Hazelnuts, were sold at the store before Friday. Customers who may have bought the nuts can return them to the store for a refund, said Harry & David spokesman Bill Ihle.

Newberg-based Willamette Sheller, which processed nuts sold around the region, issued a recall on Thursday of all hazelnuts processed between Oct. 12 and Nov. 25, saying salmonella was found on one production lot during sampling.

No illnesses have been reported. Salmonella infection can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and sometimes more severe illness.
