Electrical service has been restored to 367 Pacific Power customers near Jacksonville who spent a chilly night without power.

The electricity went out at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for homes along Old Stage and Old Military roads, Pacific Power spokesman Tom Gauntt said.

Crews worked through the night looking for the problem. At about 5 this morning, they found a lightning arrester, a piece of equipment that protects transformers from lightning strikes, that had failed and shorted out a line, he said. It was replaced and service was returned to all customers at 6:52 a.m.

Temperatures hovered in the mid-20s overnight in the area.
