Nola Jean Shurtleff



Nola Jean Shurtleff, 65, of Eugene, Ore., passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009. She was born in Washington D.C., to Hugh and Evelyn (Burrill) Shurtleff on Jan. 25, 1944. Nola finished her primary education in Medford, Ore., in 1962 and then received a B.A. in Education from Lewis and Clark College. She was employed by the University of Oregon, working in the Comparitive Literature Department. She thoroughly enjoyed hiking, languages, writing, art and music. She was a member of the Obsidians Hiking Club of Eugene. Nola is survived by her mother, Evelyn Shurtleff; sister, Ellen Shurtleff; brother, Thomas Shurtleff, of Medford, Ore.; and sister Kathryn Shurtleff (Michael Smith), of Folsom, Calif. She was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Shurtleff. A memorial is being planned during the spring, in Eugene, Ore. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite wildlands organization.
