A workshop on transportation safety — including traffic control, pedestrian safety and speed management — is planned next month in Ashland.

Mojie Takallou, a longtime transportation safety author and workshop leader, will facilitate the session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at Ashland Community Center, 59 Winburn Way. It's free and open to the public.

Takallou will talk about how traffic accidents are caused an how they can be prevented. Other topics include traffic control devices, pedestrian safety and how to inexpensively improve road safety.

The session is organized by the Oregon Department of Transportation and Ashland Transportation Commission.
